Ryder Cup Review 2021
Good day!
Did you enjoy the Ryder Cup? We certainly did at GFI GOLF. Although we had hoped the result to be closer, it was still a great spectacle to watch.
Whistling Straights, Wow! What a course. I am a big fan of links golf, the awkward bounces, often hurricane style winds (needing a Driver on a par 3) and kettle style bunkers. Whistling Straights looked epic on the TV, it looked a long course and difficult to play. A good colleague remarked that the greens resemble the Moon at times.
Captain Picks. Pre tournament there had been a lot of speculation on who the Europe captain would pick. The team turned out to include several seasoned professionals who had played previously in the tournament. Team America however picked many rookies, which in the end paid off! Historically the Ryder Cup has been won by the Europe teams most often, but I think going forward we will see more Cup wins going over the pond to the American Team.
Epic Putting. The putting from team America at times was epic. They set off on day one with a lot of momentum, notably sinking several long and tough putts. When your competition is sinking putts of that length, it becomes a very long day. I do wonder if the American team used any special putting drills or pre tournament prep to play well.
The Rory Interview on Sky Sports. For me, it hit home that what a top bloke he is, it was heart wrenching to see his emotion and just proved how much team Europe had wanted to win the tournament. It also showed the sheer team spirit amongst the players, that they were playing as a team and not just as individuals, great to see.
The Winner. In the end Team Europe was outplayed and I have to take my hat off to Team America, they deserved the trophy and played very well across multiple days.
So where is the next Ryder Cup? The next Ryder Cup is at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club Italy Rome. Do try and get tickets early as the event is on the bucket list of many a golfer!
Have a great day on the course this weekend.
